Thrustmaster Yoke ... Seriously!?
Thrustmaster makes amazing products from the Warthog HOTAS to the Pendular Rudders. With this Yoke, however, I felt they went out of their comfort zone in an attempt to make another amazing product, which to me as an airline pilot... was not so "Thrustmaster" amazing.

Who was the unforsaken student of the day? 😂😂
One of your instrument videos helped me so much in my IFR oral exam. I’m a CFII now working at a flight school in Michigan I share your video with all my students. Thank you
That’s awesome! Which video was it that helped? Are you planning on joining the airlines?
The shoe tip is so clever! Do you do anything for room security?
I also use this when standing in a long line that’s not moving, I’ll take off my shoe or shoes to keep them in my place, and go sit down somewhere until the line starts to move. 😎
And for room security, always bolt your door, even though you got the “do not disturb” sign on the outside of the door, the room service may STILL just walk right in.. happened to me 3 times, until I started to use that deadbolt.
Omg that is so smart! I’m definitely using these tips when I travel next month
I have more that I’ll probably post to future shorts 😁
Great teaching. Thabk you!
I’m glad it helped!!
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Awesome!
Which part? Thinking of remaking some of these videos. Thanks!
I love how you take a complex topic and make it simple with an example. When I used to teach CFII’s the best advice I could give was to keep complex topics simple. More complicated words and long explanations sometimes means less learning. Our job is for the student to grasp the concepts so that when they go back and look at a book to study they grasp the concepts and can build upon that.
Some of that city looks eerily familiar. Central west Georgia, perhaps?
Florida
Close. 😁
I'm not entirely convinced that was just coffee.. there had to be something else in there..
A splash of Vokda 😆
Lol
Switch to energy drinks. Have one on your night stand. Drink when you open your eyes. Not all energy drinks are created equally. Get clean ones at health food stores like Sprouts, Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.
I’m in the airlines now and to be honest, I don’t even drink coffee anymore! Sometimes I don’t even eat breakfast… not sure how my body functions now 😆
Ik any job gets tedious once you've been doing it too long; but I can't help but imagine all the work that went into making amazing human accomplishment of flight just for people a hundred years later to complain about flying 😂 Fr tho you're doing a huge service 🫡 respect man
Soon people will complain about going to space next 😆
@@AeroNerd "ugh I hate having to make small talk with the incomprehensibly infinite being everytime I have to warp travel! All he does the whole time is subtly replace every atom of both me and my ship until I'm unsure if any of it is the original and yap nonstop about the impending entropic heat death of the universe like, c'mon dude, you're bumming me out."
You should post on Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Star Talk
@@AeroNerd lol thanks
Gah I thought, "I believe I can fly" was going to start playing after that first sip lol. Missed opportunity!
Yes! Do it again!!
Ha! I would have but RUclips would have flagged it for copyright
Thank you so much for this video,it helped me alot to understand these hold patterns
I’m glad it helped! Thanks for the comment!
This is the BEST explanation for treat all landings as a go-around! I do catch myself flying too fast on landing if I am too high above the glide slope, and then forcing the plane to land! This causes the plane to rise again instead of descending, and then I have this hard landing I'm going to get more into slow flight with every type of aircraft in the flight sim but here you don't have a good feeling about how high you are above the runway! What about the flaps to do a go-around?
I would practice slow flight really low over the runway in your Skyhawk… don’t land, but try to fly as low as you can for about the first 3rd of the runway just so you can get that “sight picture”. This is what really helped my students get those smoooooth landings! After the first 3rd of the runway, go around. As soon as you have a positive rate, slowly raise one flap at a time and keep that positive rate going whether if you are flying Vx or Vy. Or as directed my the manufacturer. Thanks for the comment! More content once per week!
@@AeroNerdThanks for your comment, I look forward to learning more! Now that I am a retired military man at home taking care of my sick wife, the flight sim is the only thing left to explore the world!
You are a great instructor...do you still instructing at a flight school? I have watched most of your videos...
Thanks for the kind words! I no longer instruct, but I do post weekly videos since I fly 121 now (airlines)
WHAT DA HECK ARE YOU DOING? I felt that 😂
😆 have you experienced these types of instructors?
@@AeroNerd yes, yes I have, but I quickly learned that the best solution for dealing with them is to make them talk about themselves and to make them laugh
My DPE said-it’s just a piece of metal, and only does what its told to do.
Ha! Yea that’s also true! 😆
Glad you’re back! Really enjoyed your IFR series!
Thank you! I have started a new reboot series. I’ll try to post once a week 😁
Absolutely love your content. I too used to wonder why holding patterns were to the right and not the left. The answers I found stated that it is to the right due to the 'right of way rule' when encountering other aircraft. Essentially, if an aircraft in a holding pattern were to encounter another aircraft, they would turn to the right which also keeps them on the known protected side. A lefthanded hold is an exception due to obstacles or sound abatement.
Thanks for the comment! More to come soon!
What's the name of the book and where can I find it?
😆 Google ACS pdf! All gov’t docs are free 😁
@@AeroNerd thanks
Great video
Thanks for the comment!
Yrs back I ordered the Thrustmaster pendular rudders and instantly sent them back. Yrs back I ordered and sent back the warthog stick. Thats close to $1000 dollars and thats insane. Gotta say the new AVA stick base looks way nice though.
Why did you send back the stick? That’s the one thing I thought was pretty good as well as the throttle. I did hear that the stick “sticks” and not buttery smooth as it should be. I think I just got lucky, because my stick and throttle has been buttery smooth without any sticking. I too look forward to reviewing the AVA base if they send me one. I honestly don’t think it will beat VIRPIL’s T-50CM3 base though 🤔 and yes the pendular rudders are just… weird
Hello, AeroNerd. I am currently struggling with the DME arch. What tips or tricks can you share to improve or better understand when performing them? Thanks.
Thanks for the question! If you’d like a shout out on my next Aeronautic Explainer, let me know where you are from in the world! DME arcs can be challenging, but I’ll add this to the explainer video next week!
Cool, great job
Thanks!
Thanks for saying what needs to be said about this yoke! I feel other airline pilots on RUclips feel compelled to praise the product. Honestly, It's game hardware at sim hardware price, and you're right its definitely geared toward XBox users. My biggest gripe isn't even about the lack of checklist clip, or rattly switches... It's the BUILT-IN center deadzone on the roll axis T-Master decided to include. Anyways, the good news is that there's a lot of other hardware out there geared to sims and are at the training equipment level.. Russ Barlow did reviews on some really great yokes recently, check him out if you're not familiar. He's a retired pilot who talks about cutting edge sim gear.
Thanks, I’ll have to check out his videos.
Awesome info boss. Good to see you. How would you compare it to the Honeycomb Alpha?
Hey bud! I’d recommend the Honeycomb yoke second gen if you can get it at a decent price. Since Honeycomb isn’t doing well right now, it’s hard to get their products! I got mine from Aerosoft and it came in the mail super fast from the UK. You’ll know it’s the second gen if it has the XBox button next to the spring loaded ignition key switch. Honeycomb yoke is what I primarily use to fly airliners and GA aircraft in Flight sim. Doesn’t have the nice pendular pitch axis like the TCA yoke, BUT the quality, functionality, and practicality of the Honeycomb yoke is so far ahead of the TCA, it’s not even in the same competition level… in my opinion. Get the Honeycomb Alpha!!
@AeroNerd :) Great info, sir! I had the fortune (or misfortune) of getting the V1 Alpha when it released. While great, there was definitely room for improvement, but I found it to be the best mid range at the time. Did you ever try the MFG crosswinds? I have the v2 w/ dampener but the TMs have always interested me. Your notes of "what kind of plane were these things modeled for/after" made me laugh as I share the same opinion.
I was debating on the MFG crosswinds and the VIRPIL VPC Ace Rudders. But hopefully they will send me some to review. Until I get the money or if they send me some, I’m stuck with these TPR Thrustmaster rudders.
SUPER happy that you are back! you've helped me so with IR training Thank you so much.
Thank you for the comment! Makes me happy it helped! Are you currently prepping for the checkride or studying for commercial next?
Live it thanks
Thanks for the comment!
Helped me thanks
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comment 😁
Awesome! I recently found out about this channel and it has been really helping me get through the instrument checkride preparation. The visuals and the humor go a long way for helping to understand the topics.
I've watched countless compass videos and while I have an OK understanding this video really made it click. Thanks sir!
Thanks for the comment!
It must be nice to adjust the seats. Most the Cessnas I train in have broken seats. Last time I could barely even see the end of the props 🤣
Wow, that can be a safety concern if the seats are broken in aircraft. Especially the pilot seat. There have been cases where planes had crashed due to broken seats! Please be careful!!
They make a great product for a budget friendly build , enjoying mine !
I’ll be reviewing the CRJ soon!
@@AeroNerd excellent!

hi! can't wait
As I had guessed you were out doing something awesome - flying airplanes (and instructing, which is also important!) Looking forward to more great stuff.
Welcome back it’s been a minute lol
Hallo to the US, one thing interests me regarding the distance you mention when coming close to an airport. When you mention "I am 10 miles east 3000 ft ....", is it statute miles or nautical miles? As we are in Germany in the metric system we do not have the same problem. When we talk of miles it is nautical miles or we speak of kilometers. Greetings, Marc
Please do an Instrument video playlist, I need more!! lol
Hell yeah!! Just discovered you a month ago and was bummed out when I realized you haven’t posted in a while, I thought you quit or something. Glad to see you back! Your videos help with my instrument training.
Love it! But you need a mic!
🤣 I know, hopefully I’ll have one before I post next week. Sorry about the awesome mic qual!
Glad your back! I have greatly enjoyed your instrument videos as I’m working on that rating now. Thanks
